Unfortunately, many people will automatically assume that the “ultimate sacrifice” is death! But this is not accurate! Laying down your life does indeed indicate that you love someone! And you should be able to do this whenever appropriate and necessary! But this is not even close to being the “ultimate sacrifice”!
Living For Someone Else!
No, the Ultimate Sacrifice is choosing to lay aside your old way of life and live for someone else! This is precisely what is supposed to happen when you get married! Both the man and the woman are choosing to “become one”! They decide to let go of their life and live for their partner!

Who Should Choose Your Partner?
Question: Since marriage is the Ultimate Sacrifice, do you think it is crucial that you choose the right partner? Are you qualified to make this decision? Who is qualified to make this decision? Doesn’t God know all about you? Is He capable of finding the right partner, no matter where they live?
Far too often, young men value a woman’s physical beauty more than her inner beauty, and women tend to value a man’s income more than they should.
A Real Christian Trusts God!
A real Christian man or woman should put their trust in God! Their most important thought should be, “Is this the person God has chosen to be my partner?” And they should both wait until God gives them a crystal clear answer! Then, and ONLY THEN, is it safe to make the Ultimate Sacrifice!
If God is silent, then you need to be ready to say your farewells, no matter how attracted you might be to your love interest! I know this is hard to swallow, but you can avoid this heartache by asking God to find your partner when you are ready to begin looking for one! This will make it easy for you! All you have to do is be ready when you hear God’s voice say, “This is the one!”
If you’re a woman, that will be your signal to become his true friend! If you’re a man, that’s your signal to begin a serious relationship with her! By the way, dating isn’t necessary! When you hear God telling you, “This is the one!” if you’re a man, there’s nothing wrong with asking her, “Will you marry me?” You might ask if she heard God telling her that “you are the one” for her!
Is Marriage For “Getting” Or For “Giving”?
Far too often, both the man and the woman are interested in what they can “get” out of marriage. This is because they don’t understand that marriage is the Ultimate Sacrifice, and they are sure to be disappointed! But when both the man and the woman know that they are about to make the Ultimate Sacrifice and look to Christ’s death on the Cross as their Example, they are truly ready for marriage! When they are both ready to let their old life end and a new one begin, to work at being one flesh, then they are ready to be married!
