An Important Poem!
A close friend of mine in Pakistan wrote this poem. It describes the life of a faithful Christian well.
A Living Sacrifice
By Obaid Peter
Another Resource: A Living Sacrifice
Upon the altar, pure and bright,
A soul bows low in sacred light.
No lamb nor dove, but flesh and bone,
A heart that beats, yet not its own.
The fire of grace, the censer's breath,
Consumes not life, but self to death.
A vessel poured, a gift divine,
A life surrendered-Lord it's Thine.
As Isaac climbed that fateful hill,
Yet trusted in the Father's will,
So here I stand, arms open wide,
An offering pure, no self to hide.
Not bound by chains, nor fear's embrace,
But love's refining, holy grace.
No earthly wealth, no fleeting gain,
But Christ who lives, my loss is gain.
Like Paul who bore the lashes deep,
Yet found his joy where others weep,
This body yields, this heart complies,
A living gift that never dies.
No burnt oblation, bloodied red,
But mercy's wine and heaven's bread.
Take all I am, my hands, my days,
A sacrifice of love and praise.
O Lord, refine, renew, restore,
Till self is lost and Christ is more.
Upon this path where saints have trod,
A soul now crowned in light of God.
For what is given is not in vain,
But life exchanged for endless gain.
A flame that burns beyond the skies,
A living gift that never dies.
