Another Resource: The Great Controversy
This is the name of a fantastic book, written by Ellen G. White! It is also about summarizing what “The Great Controversy Between Christ And Satan” (the original full title of the book) is ALL about!
But this book is NOT the only thing there is to inform you about who the “frenemies” are and what they are doing! There are MANY other resources, as well! And this article attempts to gather together these very important resources!
One of these important resources I just came across today by the Providence of God! I doubt you’ll ever find such a revealing resource in the immediate future!
3 Angels’ Messages Are Central To This Topic!
When you begin to understand The Great Controversy more fully, you will soon realize that the 3 Angels’ Messages are really just another way of further describing “The Great Controversy Between Christ And Satan”!
Surprisingly, the best quotation describing the very best “summary” is NOT found in that book, but another book that Ellen G. White wrote, called “The Desire Of Ages”!
"Satan represents God’s law of love as a law of selfishness. He declares that it is impossible for us to obey its precepts. The fall of our first parents, with all the woe that has resulted, he charges upon the Creator, leading men to look upon God as the author of sin, and suffering, and death. Jesus was to unveil this deception. As one of us He was to give an example of obedience. For this He took upon Himself our nature, and passed through our experiences. “In all things it behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren.” Hebrews 2:17. If we had to bear anything which Jesus did not endure, then upon this point Satan would represent the power of God as insufficient for us. Therefore Jesus was “in all points tempted like as we are.” Hebrews 4:15. He endured every trial to which we are subject. And He exercised in His own behalf no power that is not freely offered to us. As man, He met temptation, and overcame in the strength given Him from God. He says, “I delight to do Thy will, O My God: yea, Thy law is within My heart.” Psalm 40:8. As He went about doing good, and healing all who were afflicted by Satan, He made plain to men the character of God’s law and the nature of His service. His life testifies that it is possible for us also to obey the law of God".

And it was the combination of reading The Desire Of Ages, Steps To Christ, and the first 14 chapters of The Great Controversy, in that order, which eventually led me to understand what The Great Controversy was really all about! You see, Chapter One of The Desire Of Ages clearly outlines the entire Controversy regarding a subject that we now call Righteousness By Faith. Righteousness By Faith is very clearly defined in detail in the book Steps To Christ! And the book The Great Controversy is the story about how Satan has relentlessly fought against the revelation of Righteousness By Faith throughout every generation, with the papacy being his favorite “tool” with which to fight!
When the light finally dawned on me, I saw Satan’s evil plans much more clearly! I said to myself what is it about the message of Righteousness By Faith that gets Satan so riled up? Then I remembered the big controversy in the 1888 SDA camp meeting! Later, in 1892, Ellen White stated that “we could have been in the Kingdom ere this”, referring to what might have happened if the message of Righteousness By Faith had been accepted in 1888! According to her, we could have “finished the work” in just 4 short years with only about 120,000 members in 1888!
So…Why are we still here? Well, because Satan has succeeded in keeping us blind to the truth concerning Righteousness By Faith! And there’s another “key ingredient” to motivating us to accept the message of Righteousness By Faith, and that is the study of the Melchizedek Priesthood!
