2 Timothy
2 Timothy is the last letter Paul ever wrote. He was no longer under the comfortable house arrest of Acts 28. Arrested again after a few years of freedom, he was now held in a Roman dungeon during Nero’s persecution, abandoned by most of his friends, and certain he would soon be executed. From there he wrote to Timothy, his “dearly beloved son,” asking him to come quickly before winter and bring his cloak and his books. It is a letter of farewell, and a handing on of the torch.
This series reads 2 Timothy chapter by chapter, immediately after this site’s study of 1 Timothy — the second pastoral letter and the eleventh epistle on the site. Its four chapters hold some of the best-loved words in Scripture: God hath not given us the spirit of fear; study to shew thyself approved unto God; all scripture is given by inspiration of God; preach the word; and Paul’s own last testimony, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

I Know Whom I Have Believed
paul's last letter, from a roman dungeon — a faith handed down from lois and eunice, not the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind, a saviour who has abolished death, and onesiphorus who was not ashamed of his chain
2 Timothy 1Study To Shew Thyself Approved Unto God
the torch passed on to faithful men — the soldier, athlete and farmer, the word of god that cannot be chained, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth, false teachers who said the resurrection was past already, and a vessel clean enough for the master's use
2 Timothy 2All Scripture Is Given By Inspiration Of God
perilous times in the last days — lovers of pleasures more than lovers of god, a form of godliness without its power, jannes and jambres, all that will live godly shall suffer persecution, and the god-breathed scriptures that make us wise unto salvation
2 Timothy 3I Have Fought A Good Fight
paul's last words — preach the word in season and out of season, teachers for itching ears, a good fight fought and a course finished, a crown laid up for that day for all who love his appearing, demas gone, mark restored, and the lord who stood with him when all forsook him
2 Timothy 4
