Godhead Or Trinity?
Godhead or Trinity? I’ve seen many discussions on Facebook about this issue and a three-part video series on this subject. The video series made some valid points, but I don’t think this is as serious a matter as they describe!
Here’s another great study on the Trinity: The Mystery Of The Trinity
FACT: The Bible Says God Has 3 Parts!
Fact: The Bible does mention 3 “components” of God. Everything mathematical in the Bible’s original languages, including the number of languages used, is a multiple of 3 or 7! Almost every “cycle” in Nature is based on a multiple of 3 or 7! Any group with seven items always has a “centerpiece” representing Jesus Christ and another three items on each side!
The only real difference between the two groups is that one group considers the Holy Spirit to be a “force” emanating from either the Father or the Son (or both). The other group considers the Holy Spirit a “person” rather than just a “force.”
In either case, this slight difference is mostly “semantics” and, in reality, makes no difference in my relationship with God! I still pray directly to my heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus! Nothing has changed since I started considering that perhaps the Holy Spirit is a “force” rather than a person.
Marriage Is A Model
However, by using a human marriage relationship as a “model,” we can make some reasonable assumptions about what might be going on in the Godhead.
Let’s temporarily assume that the Holy Spirit is a “person,” OK? Do you think the Holy Spirit would be “offended” if we were to think of him or her as a “force”? I seriously doubt it! A woman makes a complete sacrifice of her life when she gets married! She does not remain the same person! Now she “belongs” to someone else by her own choice!
I firmly believe that God gave us the institution of marriage to teach us many things, including some lessons about the Godhead and what it means to “be one”! Judging by my relationship with God, if the Holy Spirit is a “person,” then I would not be surprised if he or she is perfectly content with being called a “force”!
Why do I say that? Throughout history, there have been many true stories of great women who made their husbands even greater while staying entirely out of public view! What’s more, these women did not think of their actions as a “sacrifice” but as the typical role of a “loving wife”! They were happy to fill their role!
If sinful human women can do things like this, why should it surprise us if the Holy Spirit, if he/she is a “person,” should choose to take on a similar role? It really should not surprise us at all! And, if this is really the situation, then would the Holy Spirit be “offended” by being thought of as “just a force”? Of course not!
So why is there so much “heated debate” about this subject? I can tell you exactly why!!! The answer is found in one quotation!
“In a special sense Seventh-day Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and light bearers. To them has been entrusted the last warning for a perishing world. On them is shining wonderful light from the word of God. They have been given a work of the most solemn import—the proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages. There is no other work of so great importance. They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention.
The most solemn truths ever entrusted to mortals have been given us to proclaim to the world. The proclamation of these truths is to be our work. The world is to be warned, and God's people are to be true to the trust committed to them. They are not to engage in speculation, neither are they to enter into business enterprises with unbelievers; for this would hinder them in their God-given work”.
“Testimonies for the Church”, Volume 9, Chapter 2, first and second paragraph.
In this ONE quote, we can easily see the reason why Satan is trying to find ANYTHING he can use to distract us from the task God has assigned to us!
Most SDA preachers don’t mention the fourth angel found in Revelation 18! But we need to remember:
“And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird”.
Revelation 18:1, 2 KJV
Notice that this angel is “shouting” his message! Everyone on Earth hears his message. This event is also described in Song of Solomon 6:10! “Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners”? Logically, this would be after the “great shaking,” and the first Sunday Law is passed! Probation for SDAs will be over! But probation will NOT be over for the rest of the world!
The length of this final probationary period is very short—nobody knows how short! So there’s no time to waste and no words to mince! We must give this message in the loudest and straightest terms! Are you ready to do your part?
And there’s one more issue concerning this debate! I believe that the Holy Spirit is a person and female!
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Genesis 1:26, 27 KJV
Do you think that Satan hates the “image of God” in mankind? Do you think he wants to distort our understanding of that “image”? Of course he does! The only original Hebrew word for the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament also refers to the female gender! In the New Testament, there are several references to the Holy Spirit as “the Comforter”! We all know that women are better comforters than men!
One of the most common attributes of witchcraft is the portrayal of “mixed genders” in the “objects of worship.” It would, therefore, make perfect sense that Satan would try to confuse us, both as to the nature of the Holy Spirit and its real gender!
Now, I’m not going to tell you that “you must agree with me,” or you’ll be on your way to hell! Plenty of that kind of talk is already going on in SDA ranks! This kind of gossip, or “backbiting,” has NO right to invade our church family! And besides, I think you’re intelligent enough to figure this out for yourself!
So, study this out for yourself, my SDA brothers and sisters! This is not a “crucial doctrine,” but it could affect your relationship with God!
While listening to the song above, I came to an important realization!
The Trinity provides the perfect solution for those dealing with the loss of a Father, Mother, spouse, or child! The Holy Spirit can fill the void for single guys. And She can fill it for those men whose wife has died! Jesus Christ can fill the void for single women. And He can fill it for those women whose husbands have died! (See John 14:18). The Father, Son and Holy Spirit can fill the void for anyone who has experienced any kind of tragedy related to parenting or companionship! The “image of God” is complete! The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are a complete solution to every human need!
