Rescue The Perishing (#367)

Another Resource: Another Performance

This song should be a clear “favorite” among SDA members and churches! It describes what our priorities should be! If it doesn’t describe your priorities then your relationship with Jesus is really just an act…it’s not really close!

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

If Jesus has not saved you “from your sins” then you don’t have anything to share! See Steps To Christ (yes, the whole book) and Desire of Ages, Chapter One, “God With Us”! Also read Revelation 3:14-22, 2 Peter 1:1-4, 1 Corinthians 10:1-13, 1, 2, and 3 John. God’s plan is very clear in these passages!

Though they are slighting him, still he is waiting,
waiting the penitent child to receive;
plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
he will forgive if they only believe.

There’s a scene in one of the movies of the “Indiana Jones” series where the main character (Harrison Ford), in order to get to the “treasure”, has to step down about a foot onto a completely invisible bridge, from an extremely high cliff! This accurately describes real belief! What many people think “belief” means is really just a cheap imitation called “mental ascent”! No, real belief means to put your trust in God’s love, goodness, and truthfulness! No one can do this without a personal experience with God! They can choose to exercise their faith and thereby gain an experience with God, however!

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
back to the narrow way patiently win them;
tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died.

This is our real calling as “children of God”! It does not matter if we are young or old, male or female, highly educated or “self taught”; ALL of us are called to be “rescuers” for our Heavenly Father! “The angels of glory find their joy in giving,—giving love and tireless watchcare to souls that are fallen and unholy. Heavenly beings woo the hearts of men; they bring to this dark world light from the courts above; by gentle and patient ministry they move upon the human spirit, to bring the lost into a fellowship with Christ which is even closer than they themselves can know”. Desire of Ages, page 21 Shouldn’t we be following their example?

Chorus
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us”. Matthew 1:20-23 KJV See also Desire of Ages, chapter one, “God With Us”.
