The story of Mary Magdalene is one of the best examples of true repentance! Mary repented many, many times! She fell into the same sins over and over again! Jesus cast out demons that were possessing Mary on 7 different occasions! Jesus helped Mary to stay away from her sinful habits by encouraging her to live with Martha and Lazarus, instead of her adoptive father Simon Iscariot, the actual father of Judas Iscariot (who betrayed Jesus)!
Jesus gave Mary this advice because He knew that it was Simon Iscariot who taught Mary to be a prostitute in the first place, acted as her “pimp”, and most likely had something to do with setting her up to be “caught in the act” of adultery and dragged naked before Jesus to be stoned!
Mary was humble. And she not only loved Jesus with her whole heart, but was willing to demonstrate her love for Jesus without any thought of preserving her own reputation or her own life!
Jesus had very high praise for Mary’s love! He pointed it out directly to Simon Iscariot during the last “party” at Simon’s house, just before His trial and crucifixion!
"1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this".

11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

"1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her".
John 20:1-18 KJV
Please notice that in the reference above is contained the strongest single word of love ever spoken; Mary! Jesus had not yet returned to Heaven to make sure that His sacrifice on the Cross was accepted by His Father! Jesus delayed that return because He knew that Mary desperately needed Him! No one else ever “delayed the Son of God” like that!
So, What Is True Repentance?
So, What Is True Repentance? True Repentance always results in a complete change in the direction of a person’s life! Their relationship with God becomes their most important priority!
"15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him".
John 14:15-21 KJV
True repentance is always clearly demonstrated by “keeping” the Ten Commandments! In the above reference Jesus clearly states how we can demonstrate our love for Him! By the way, He does not connect this with “salvation”, but only to demonstrating our love for Him! And notice that keeping “His Commandments” is a prerequisite to receiving the Holy Spirit (see verse 16)!
If you do a thorough word study of the original Greek word used for “commandments” in verse 15 and the related Hebrew roots of that word, you will find that there’s a very clear connection to the words “covenant”, “contract”, and “instructions”.
Please also notice that in verse 18, Jesus equates Himself directly with the Holy Spirit! This means that Jesus is claiming to be as much God as the Holy Spirit is God! And then in verse 21 he shows that He is as much God as His Father! If this is not enough evidence for you, then just back up and read verses 1-21 which very clearly indicates that the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are ALL God!
And keep in mind that it was Jesus Himself Who WROTE the Ten Commandments with His own finger! This is why He refers to them as “My Commandments”!
True Repentance is always the result of falling in love with God because of His great love for us! And the most important aspect of real love is loyalty! A person who is loyal is obedient to the one they love! It really is just that simple!
I can hear someone saying, “But what if I’m not yet in love with God”? Don’t worry! True Repentance is a gift that comes from God the Father by the Authority of Jesus Christ and through the working of the Holy Spirit! You need to pray for True Repentance and to be open to receiving it! You cannot receive True Repentance without first opening the door of your heart and allowing Jesus to enter! By simply believing in God’s Word, the Bible, you can ask Jesus to come into your heart and by faith believe that He has heard your prayer!
True Repentance is a process! Don’t expect your heart to be completely healed on the first day! Just like any human relationship, it takes time to develop your relationship with God!

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him".
Acts 5:29-31 KJV
"15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
