Hebrews
The Epistle to the Hebrews was written to Jewish believers in Jesus who were tempted to turn back to the temple and its sacrifices. Its answer is one word: better. Jesus is better than the angels, better than Moses, better than Aaron; His covenant is better, His sacrifice is better, and the sanctuary where He now ministers is “the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Ellen White, with many through the centuries, treats the letter as the work of the apostle Paul.
This series reads Hebrews chapter by chapter, following this site’s studies of Paul’s other letters. No book of the New Testament explains the sanctuary more fully: Christ our great High Priest, “touched with the feeling of our infirmities,” who entered heaven itself “now to appear in the presence of God for us.” Around that centre stand some of the best-loved passages in Scripture: the rest that remains for the people of God, faith’s great roll of honour in chapter 11, and the call to run the race “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
