Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus (#618)
Another Resource: The Great Controversy
This song should be “self explanatory” to every SDA! The words are very difficult to “misinterpret”! However, that does not mean there’s nothing to learn by reading this article! And I’m not going to ask you to “fasten your seatbelt” for this one! No, I’m going to ask you to grab your sword (God’s Word) and use it!
“Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Ye soldiers of the cross;”
How would you describe the “job” of a soldier? I think that an accurate description needs to begin with the word “Loyalty”! They are loyal to the death for their Commander! They think like He thinks, they DO everything He tells them! They are part of His body! Got it?
“Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss;”
What is “His Royal Banner”? It is the “name” or “reputation” of Jesus Christ and his Father! And how do you think his banner is affected when SDA’s start talking about the “days” of Creation week as long periods of time? It is dragged through the mud by the intent of the bearer! Are we crystal clear? It is like signing your own “death warrant” for treason!
“From victory unto victory, His army shall he lead,”
“Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners”? Song Of Solomon 6:10 KJV
I believe that this verse is very clearly describing the SDA church specifically, both just before the first Sunday Law is passed, and for the duration of remaining probation for the rest of the world! Probation closes for SDA’s when the first Sunday Law is passed! The SDA church, represented by this woman in Song Of Solomon, must be purified BEFORE the Sunday Law is passed, and she must be clothed with the “Righteousness of Christ”!
“Till every foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord indeed”.
The word “Lord” means more than “Master”! It means that you are completely devoted to Him! It is self that clamors to “go along” with so called science!
“The warfare against self is the greatest battle that was ever fought. The yielding of self, surrendering all to the will of God, requires a struggle; but the soul must submit to God before it can be renewed in holiness”. Steps To Christ, Chapter 5 paragraph 3
It is ONLY AFTER this battle with self has been fully engaged that the words in this phrase of the song can be fulfilled! Are we clear?
“Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey;”
What trumpet call? The Word of God, Jesus Christ, which includes the Holy Spirit, according to John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you”. Here Jesus is stressing the point of His oneness with the Holy Spirit! The Word of God is YOUR TRUMPET! But the trumpet will make no sound until YOU play it! You can hear the trumpet call by reading the Bible for yourself! You “obey the trumpet call” by sharing the messages of God’s Word with others and by obeying the instructions found within its pages!
“Forth to the mighty conflict, In this His glorious day,”
Remember Song of Solomon 6:10? This is a call for us to go “forth” dressed in the “Righteousness of Christ”, to bring glory to Christ, just before His return! Clear enough?
“Ye that are His now serve Him against unnumbered foes;”
Please note that the older hymnal says: “Ye that are men” and I fully support this change! Women in the SDA church have been very much neglected in the work we have before us! This is all out war! We need every person: male, female, young, and old! If your sword (God’s Word) is “sheathed” you’re a traitor! Are we clear?
“Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose”.
“Hang my locket around your neck, wear my ring on your finger. Love is invincible facing danger and death. Passion laughs at the terrors of hell. The fire of love stops at nothing— it sweeps everything before it. Flood waters can’t drown love, torrents of rain can’t put it out. Love can’t be bought, love can’t be sold— it’s not to be found in the marketplace”. Song Of Solomon 8:6-8 The Message Bible (MSG)
It is only when we fall deeply in love with Jesus that our “courage” can “rise with danger”! And that we can oppose the forces of hell!
“Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone;”
“God’s Message: “Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He’s like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows. But blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season””. Jeremiah 17:5-8 (MSG)
Don’t stand in your own strength, but stand!
“The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own”.
“Many are inquiring, “How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?” You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him”. Steps To Christ, page 47
“Put on the gospel armor, and watching unto prayer,”
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak”. Ephesians 6:10-20 KJV
“Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there”.
“The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.
But such a character is not the result of accident; it is not due to special favors or endowments of Providence. A noble character is the result of self-discipline, of the subjection of the lower to the higher nature—the surrender of self for the service of love to God and man”. Education, page 57
“Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The strife will not be long; this day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song.”
“A mightier than the strong man armed is set for their defense. All power and greatness and excellence of character will be given to those who have believed and stood in defense of the truth, standing up and firmly defending the laws of God”. MR 21, page 327.1
This cannot be clearer!
“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. Philippians 2:6-11 KJV
This reference IS the “victor’s song”! And there’s already a song in the Norwegian language that uses this same Bible passage in Norwegian! The name of this song is “Kristushymnen” and is on an album named “Av Nade”, made by the Triangelos Choir in Oslo, Norway. You can find this song on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and many other places. Even if you don’t want to learn the whole Norwegian language, learning how to sing this Norwegian song is definitely worthwhile!
“To him that overcometh, a crown of life shall be;”
“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore (zealot was the term for today's "fanatic"), and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches”. Revelation 3:14-22 KJV
This is very clearly one of the best “love letters” ever written! It is a clear invitation to be very intimate with God and with His Son, Jesus!
“He with the King of Glory shall reign eternally.”
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son”. Revelation 21:1-7 KJV
OK, no more excuses for sitting on the bench! Time to draw your sword and join the fight! By the way, the performance of this song by Fountainview Academy was the inspiration for creating this website!
