The Godhead Reviewed
The Anti-Trinity movement within the SDA denomination sounds very convincing and legitimate until you really dig deep! They even convinced me for a short time (one day) that they were correct! And I’m the son of an SDA pastor! They had me believing in their side until they mentioned that Jesus was not on the same level as God the Father and did not exist throughout all of eternity! When they said that, I realized that something was wrong with their perspective.
I wrote to one of the experts in the Anti-Trinity movement and asked him some questions. He seemed very convincing and logical. I said that I would study this subject further with God’s help. And I’ve done just that. But God’s voice has been strangely silent. I think He expects me to know already the answer from my previous study on this subject.
The first chapter of John states that Jesus created literally everything in the entire Universe! So, if Jesus did not exist for all of eternity, then the first chapter of John could not be accurate! And if you believe that, then at least in your mind, you’ve just destroyed the accuracy of the whole Bible!
If somehow God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit existed outside of the Universe before any time or space existed, then and ONLY then, could Jesus really be described accurately by John 1!
When the Bible states that Jesus is “the only Begotten of the Father”, I believe that is ONLY referring to the fact of Jesus’ birth of Mary at His incarnation. It is not referring to any time in all of eternity when Jesus did not exist and only God the Father existed!
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
John 1:1-3 KJV
“In the beginning” of what? The answer is found in John 1:2! “The same was in the beginning with God”! In other words, Jesus was always with God from the beginning of God! (This is simple logic from God’s Word. It is incontrovertible evidence that Jesus was not created (or generated) by God the Father!)
If it were true that Jesus did not always exist with the Father, then how could Genesis 1 be truthful?
"26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Genesis 1:26, 27 KJV
So, we have clearly established that Jesus was ALWAYS with God the Father from the beginning of God the Father! John 1:1, 2 is absolute proof of that fact!
Now, who or what is the Holy Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit a person? Or is He an “essence of Jesus and/or God the Father” (as the Anti-Trinitarians teach)? This is a more complex issue, and you can get part of this information from another article I wrote: Melchizedek Deep Dive!
The article mentioned above is pretty convincing, but it does not present all of the evidence because it is focused on the Melchizedek Message.
One of the verses that is used by the Anti-Trinitarian movement is John 14:15-18.
"15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."
John 14:15-21 KJV
They say that Jesus equates Himself with the Comforter in verse 18. And they conclude, therefore, that the Holy Spirit IS Jesus Himself or at least “an essence of Jesus” rather than a separate being. However, I don’t see this as proof that the Holy Spirit is NOT a separate being! When you think about how many Christian women have represented their own husbands by their own testimony, it is easy to understand how the Holy Spirit could be a separate being and still accurately represent either God the Father or God the Son!
"21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."
Genesis 2:21-24 KJV
Now, if we combine the ideas put forth in Genesis 1:26, 27, Genesis 2:24, and John 1:1-3, we can easily see how the Holy Spirit could very well be a separate being and still be “one” with God the Father and God the Son (just like a husband and wife are “one”)!
"22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:22-27 KJV
In the passage above, we see that the Father sends the Holy Spirit “in the name” of Jesus! And throughout the 14th chapter of John, Jesus reiterates that He must leave this world, and then He will ask His Father to send the Holy Spirit. This is because Jesus has not yet gone to the cross and His sacrifice has not been “approved” by His Father!
In verse 26, Jesus says that the Comforter is the Holy Ghost (aka Holy Spirit), that it is the Father who sends the Holy Spirit, and that the Holy Spirit will bring the words of Jesus into the minds of the disciples. How is all this possible? Because the Holy Spirit is “one” with the Father and with Jesus, just like a husband and wife are “one”! The husband and wife are two different people, but they are one in character and purpose. Both the husband and the wife are qualified to represent their partner to others.
The connection of the Holy Spirit to the Father and the Son is much more intimate and accurate than a sinful husband and wife can be! And the wording in verse 26 makes it crystal clear that the Holy Spirit is indeed a separate person. A “messenger” is what the Father is sending in the name of Jesus. And a messenger is a person or being.
Again, I have earnestly prayed to God the Father to reveal to me the truth about the Godhead, and I’m more than willing to admit I’m wrong if God shows me otherwise from His Word. But so far, He has only shown me the insights that I’ve mentioned in this article.

Just today, God revealed to me why the Anti-Trinitarian movement is absolutely wrong!
"31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
Matthew 12:31, 32 KJV
Here we see that Jesus is willing to forgive the sin of blasphemy against Himself, but not blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. If the Holy Ghost were a “non-entity”, as they teach, then it would not be possible to blaspheme against him! They teach that the Holy Spirit is an “essence” of both the Father and the Son. This removes the “personhood” of the Holy Spirit. There are many verses which contradict this idea, and the one above makes it clear exactly “how” one can blaspheme the Holy Spirit, by removing the Holy Spirit’s personhood! As far as I’m concerned, the case is closed!
