Lead On O King Eternal: OK, after a brief rest, God has clearly spoken to me that this should be the next hymn to write about!

Lead on O King eternal,

This phrase tells me that the person singing loves to obey his/her King! Is this true for you?

the day of march has come;

Yes, it most definitely has come! It is high time for those loyal SDA’s to stand up for Jesus in unity, just like the woman pictured in Song Of Solomon 6:10 KJV!

henceforth in fields of conquest
thy tents shall be our home.

“Thy tents” can refer to at least two different things: the trees of the forest, and God’s miraculous protection from the “elements”!

Through days of preparation
thy grace has made us strong;

Take a look at the entries in the Index to EGW writings sometime and look up the word “grace”! Did you know that at least half of the quotations refer to “grace” as “power” or “motivation”?

and now, O King eternal,
we lift our battle song.

Yes, and it is “about time”!

Lead on, O King eternal,
till sin’s fierce war shall cease,

and holiness shall whisper
the sweet amen of peace.

There’s no peace between God’s people and the world, but those who practice holiness are filled with a peace that passes all understanding!

For not with swords loud clashing,
nor roll of stirring drums;

Yes, God’s work gets done mostly by people who “preach” by the way they live a life of consistent service for God and others. It is rarely front page news, but some people notice!

with deeds of love and mercy
the heavenly kingdom comes.

“The earth was dark through misapprehension of God. That the gloomy shadows might be lightened, that the world might be brought back to God, Satan’s deceptive power was to be broken. This could not be done by force. The exercise of force is contrary to the principles of God’s government; He desires only the service of love; and love cannot be commanded; it cannot be won by force or authority. Only by love is love awakened. To know God is to love Him; His character must be manifested in contrast to the character of Satan. This work only one Being in all the universe could do. Only He who knew the height and depth of the love of God could make it known. And, believe it or not, we are invited to participate in this work ourselves by learning to become like Jesus Christ!

Lead on, O King eternal,
we follow, not with fears,

The fire of love stops at nothing— it sweeps everything before it. Flood waters can’t drown love, torrents of rain can’t put it out. Love can’t be bought, love can’t be sold— it’s not to be found in the marketplace”. Song of Solomon 8:6-8 MSG Bible Yes, a love stronger than death motivates the people of God! This is why they follow without any fear!

for gladness breaks like morning
where’er thy face appears.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. John 16:33 KJV

Thy cross is lifted o’er us,
we journey in its light;

the crown awaits the conquest;
lead on, O God of might.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
