Power Of The Cross!

Power Of The Cross by Fountainview Academy
Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day, Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then nailed to a cross of wood. This the power of the cross, Christ became sin for us. Took the blame, bore the wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross.

Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath quakes as its maker bows his head. Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life, finished the victory cry. This the power of the cross, Christ became sin for us. Took the blame, bore the wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross. This the power of the cross, Son of God slain for us.

Oh to see my name written in the wounds, for through your suffering, I am free. Death is crushed to death, life is mine to live, won through your selfless love. This the power of the cross, Son of God slain for us. What a love, what a cost, we stand forgiven at the cross. What a love, what a cost, we stand forgiven at the cross.

This is one of my favorite Fountainview performances. I love the words of this song! It is true that someday we can view the actual movie footage of what really happened when Jesus died for us! And I think the author of the words was thinking about this fact when they penned the first line!

In each section, we see a statement that the song will now define “The Power Of The Cross”! Then, a description of that power follows! The whole song defines that power, including the awesome music!

Descriptions of Power:

Darkest Day (in history),
Christ on the road to Calvary (His humility and fortitude),
Tried by sinful men (a righteous God judged by sinful men, not fair),
Torn and beaten, then nailed to a cross of wood (unfair, unjust torture),
Christ became sin for us (He accepted blame for things He didn’t do),
Bore the Wrath (He accepted the wrath of His Father for our sins),
He forgave us in his heart before making the sacrifice,
He suffered to free us,
Death is crushed to death,
Life is mine to live (because He died in my place),
Won through Your selfless love (See John 10),
and Son of God slain for us (What? Why?).

Words fail to describe the full power of what we see in the Cross! So the song wraps up with a simple exclamation: What a love, what a cost, we stand forgiven at the cross!
