The Love Of God

A Father’s Love | The Love of God

A question that haunts many in this world today is, how could evil exist if the one who created everything is only good? Like we discussed in our previous episode, God is a God of beauty and perfection. In fact, when God finished creating the earth, He stepped back and saw that everything was very good. So, if God created everything good, then where did evil come from? And why would He have allowed it in the first place? The answer the Bible gives us is that God is love.

But that’s so cliche, you might say. Well, consider this. God’s love is what extends to us the option to choose between right and wrong, good and evil.

Without it, we would be slaves to His will, mere automatons. This kind of love is exemplified in the story of the prodigal son. The father loved him enough to give him the choice to stay and be part of the family, or go and choose his own way.

He chose to leave, but the father prayed every day, waiting to have him back. It’s a special kind of love that gives someone the freedom to choose. This kind of love is something I struggle to fully comprehend.

And I think it’s a love that we will study for the rest of our lives.

The Love Of God

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair bow down with care. God gave His Son to win.
His erring child He reconciled and pardoned from His sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure, how measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure the saints' and angels' song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the sky of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above would make the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.
O love of God, how rich and pure, how measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure the saints' and angels' song.

The saints' and angels' song.

With this measureless love of God poured out freely on all, would peace and harmony reign forever? Obviously not, because you can see that the world we live in is deeply marred. So when did all this change? We’ll look at this question in our next episode. Subscribe so you don’t miss it or any of our episodes and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
